Restore a database using SQL Server Management Studio

This simple step-by-step guide, clearly illustrated with screenshots, will take you through the process of backing up an SQL database.

Step by step guide

  1. In Object Explorer, click the server name to expand the server tree. Expand Databases, Right-click the database, point to Tasks, and then click Restore and then click Database, which opens the Restore Database dialog box.


     
  2. The following Restore Database windows will appear. Select From device mentioned under the Source for restore and click the button in front of that to specify the file location.


     
  3. Select the option Backup media as File and click on the Add button to add the backup file location.


     
  4. Select the backup file you wish to restore and Hit the OK button.
