Course Overview

Cloud Computing with Microsoft Azure is a practical 12-hour instructor-led course designed to introduce learners to cloud computing and the core services available through Microsoft Azure. Participants will learn fundamental cloud concepts before gaining hands-on experience with Azure resources, including virtual machines, application hosting, storage, networking, databases, identity, security, monitoring and cost management. Learners will use the Azure Portal and other management tools to create, configure and manage cloud resources.

The course also includes a practical deployment exercise where learners publish a working application to Microsoft Azure and access it through a public web address. It is suitable for aspiring cloud professionals, developers, data and AI learners, IT professionals and anyone who wants practical experience using Microsoft Azure.

Requirements

No previous experience with Microsoft Azure or cloud computing is required.

Participants should have basic computer and internet skills and be familiar with general IT concepts such as files, applications, databases and computer networks.

No programming experience is required. A pre-built sample application can be provided for the practical deployment exercises.

Learners will need access to a Microsoft Azure account with an active subscription for hands-on exercises. Some Azure services may incur charges depending on the resources and pricing options used. Learners will be shown how to monitor costs and remove resources that are no longer required.

You may also complete the following course(s) before attending the Cloud Computing with Microsoft Azure course but they are not mandatory:

Basic familiarity with computers, applications and general IT concepts is recommended.

Yes. Access to a Microsoft Azure account with an active subscription is required for practical exercises involving the creation and management of Azure resources.

Setup information will be provided before the course so that learners can prepare their Azure environment in advance.

Yes. This is a practical course and learners will create and configure real Azure resources such as resource groups, storage, compute, networking and application hosting services.

Learners will also practise monitoring and removing resources when they are no longer needed.

Yes. The course introduces Azure Virtual Machines and explains how virtual machines provide Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) computing in Azure.

Learners will understand how virtual machines are created, configured and accessed, as well as when a virtual machine may be more appropriate than a managed platform service.

Yes. The course introduces important Azure security concepts including Microsoft Entra ID, authentication, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Multi-Factor Authentication and least-privilege access.

It also explains the shared responsibility model and the responsibilities organisations retain when moving systems and data to the cloud.

After completing this course, learners can progress into more specialised areas such as Azure administration, DevOps, cloud application development, data engineering, Microsoft Fabric, cloud security and AI services.

Developers may also progress to courses such as API Development with Python & FastAPI and use Azure to deploy their applications to the cloud.

No. Programming experience is not required to attend this course.

The practical deployment section may use a pre-built sample application so that learners can focus on understanding cloud deployment and Azure services rather than writing application code.

Some Microsoft Azure services may incur charges depending on the resources and pricing tiers used.

The course will demonstrate how to review pricing, monitor usage and costs, and remove resources when they are no longer required. Wherever practical, exercises will use low-cost or free options suitable for training.

Yes. The course includes a practical deployment module where learners deploy a working application using Azure App Service.

You will learn how to publish the application, access it through a public HTTPS address, view logs and update the deployed application.

Yes. The course introduces cloud database services including Azure SQL Database and provides an overview of other data options such as Azure Cosmos DB.
