Course Overview

DevOps Fundamentals: Git, CI/CD, Docker & Cloud Deployment is a practical 12-hour instructor-led course designed to introduce developers and technical learners to the tools and workflows used to build, test, package and deploy modern applications efficiently. Participants will work with Git and GitHub, create Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment workflows using GitHub Actions, containerise applications with Docker, manage configuration and secrets, and deploy a containerised application to the cloud.

Through hands-on exercises and an end-to-end project, learners will experience a complete DevOps workflow from source code and version control through automated testing, containerisation and cloud deployment. The course focuses on practical foundations that can later be extended into areas such as Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code and advanced cloud DevOps.

Frequently Asked Questions

DevOps is an approach to software development and operations that uses collaboration, automation and repeatable processes to build, test and deliver software more efficiently and reliably.

DevOps commonly combines version control, automated testing, CI/CD, containers, cloud services, monitoring and deployment automation.

Basic knowledge of Git and GitHub is strongly recommended because version control forms an important part of the DevOps workflow.

Learners who are new to Git may benefit from completing our Git & GitHub for Developers course before attending this course.

Docker is a platform used to package applications and their dependencies into portable containers.

During the course, you will learn how to create a Dockerfile, build an image, run a container and prepare the application for cloud deployment.

Yes. The course includes a practical project where learners containerise an application with Docker and deploy it to the cloud.

The final application will be accessible via a public web address, so learners experience the full process from source code to live deployment.

The course explains how to keep sensitive information such as passwords, API keys and deployment credentials out of source code.

Learners will use GitHub Actions secrets and environment variables to manage sensitive configuration more securely.

Infrastructure as Code and Terraform may be introduced as optional topics.

More detailed Terraform and infrastructure automation are better suited to an advanced DevOps course after learners understand the core development and deployment workflow.

CI/CD commonly refers to Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery or Continuous Deployment.

Continuous Integration automatically builds and tests code changes, while Continuous Delivery or Deployment automates the process of preparing or releasing tested software to environments such as staging or production.

Basic software development experience is recommended.

You do not need to be an advanced programmer, but you should understand how a simple application is structured and be comfortable working with source code files. You can use Python, JavaScript, or another programming language as your background.

Yes. GitHub Actions is used throughout the course to create automated CI/CD workflows.

You will learn how to create YAML workflow files, trigger workflows after code changes, run automated tests, build Docker images and deploy applications.

The practical deployment exercises will primarily use Microsoft Azure.

However, the course covers DevOps principles, including Git, CI/CD, Docker, container registries, and deployment pipelines, that transfer to other cloud platforms.

Kubernetes may be introduced as an optional or bonus topic, but it is not part of the core 12-hour syllabus.

The main course focuses on establishing strong foundations in Git, CI/CD, Docker and cloud deployment before learners progress to container orchestration.
