Frequently Asked Questions

Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft's integrated data and analytics platform that brings together capabilities for data ingestion, engineering, warehousing, analytics, real-time processing and business intelligence. Fabric uses OneLake as a shared data layer so that different analytics workloads can work with data through an integrated platform.

A Lakehouse combines the flexibility and scalability of a data lake with many of the querying and management capabilities traditionally associated with a data warehouse. In Microsoft Fabric, a Lakehouse can store files and Delta tables and lets you access data using technologies such as SQL and Apache Spark.

Yes. The course demonstrates how Power BI integrates with Microsoft Fabric and how engineered and prepared data can be used to create semantic models, visualisations and interactive reports. The main focus is on the end-to-end Fabric workflow rather than teaching every Power BI feature in depth.

Basic SQL knowledge is recommended because Microsoft Fabric uses SQL for querying Lakehouse and Warehouse data.

Learners should ideally understand basic concepts such as SELECT, filtering, grouping and joins. Our SQL for Beginners course provides a suitable foundation.

Yes. You will use Data Factory within Microsoft Fabric to understand data ingestion, connections and pipelines.

Learners will create practical pipeline steps to move data into Fabric and monitor the execution of those workflows.

The course introduces several concepts relevant to Microsoft's Fabric certification pathways, including Lakehouses, Warehouses, data ingestion, pipelines, transformations, semantic models and analytics.

However, this is primarily a practical Microsoft Fabric training course rather than a complete exam-preparation course. Microsoft's DP-600 and DP-700 certifications cover a broader range of advanced skills than a 12-hour introductory course can teach.

OneLake is the unified logical data lake used by Microsoft Fabric. It provides a common storage foundation for Fabric workloads, helping Data Engineers, Data Analysts and other users work with shared organisational data without creating separate storage systems for every analytical workload.

A Lakehouse is highly flexible for storing and processing diverse data types and supports both engineering and analytical workloads.

A Data Warehouse is primarily designed for structured relational data and high-performance SQL analytics.

Microsoft Fabric supports both approaches, letting organisations choose the architecture that best fits their data and analytical needs.

Previous Power BI experience is helpful but not essential.

Learners who want a stronger foundation in reporting and visualisation may benefit from completing our Microsoft Power BI for Beginners course before or after this course.

No. Python and PySpark are not required for the core 12-hour course.

Fabric notebooks and PySpark may be introduced as optional or bonus topics. More advanced Data Engineering learners can explore them in greater depth after developing the core Fabric skills covered in this course.

Yes. The course includes an end-to-end practical project where learners ingest source data, transform it, store it in a Lakehouse or Warehouse, query the data and create analytical output using Power BI.

The objective is to experience the complete workflow from raw source data to business insight.

After completing this course, learners can progress into more advanced areas such as Fabric Data Engineering, PySpark, Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineering, cloud Data Engineering, Real-Time Intelligence, advanced Power BI and data architecture.

Learners interested in broader engineering skills may also progress to our Data Engineering with Python & SQL or Cloud Computing with Microsoft Azure courses.
